Senior Platform Specialist

Chicago, IL (NW Suburbs), or Austin, TX - Full Time

A little about this role:

The Senior Platform Specialist is responsible for the setup and execution of client emails using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC). etc. In addition, they will work closely with the QA team to ensure all emails are error-free before executing the deployment. The Senior Platform Specialist will work with internal teams to ensure the emails are set up and targeted to the appropriate segments and successfully execute any tests according to the client’s specifications.

The Senior Platform Specialist is a team leader, training and mentoring entry-level Platform Specialists and encouraging the team to hit their collective goal of error-free email deployment. The Senior Platform Specialist assumes technical ownership of their email programs and works closely with the Account and Strategic teams to provide recommendations for the continuous improvement of client email programs. This position requires technical skill and a strong attention to detail.


  • Own and manage all facets of client email programs using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC)
  • Plan, set up, implement and configure email programs
  • Utilize tools to schedule one-off and trigger programs
  • Configure A/B testing, segmentation and dynamic content
  • Track and report email campaign metrics
  • Complete rigorous QA checks on every campaign
  • Support internal Platform Specialists, Account Management and Creative teams
  • Develop and document efficiencies in current and future processes
  • Produce email campaign templates by required deadlines using HTML and dynamic scripting code if needed
  • Adhere to deadlines set forth by the Account and QA teams to ensure emails are deployed in a timely manner
  • Manage documentation for all assigned email programs
  • Collaborate with team members on ways to improve internal processes and client programs
  • Provide recommendations and guidance on testing, execution, deliverability and strategy for assigned email programs
  • Work with other team members to identify and implement complex lifecycle programs within the chosen ESP platform
  • Integrate current ESP metrics with enterprise analytics solutions
  • Continually strive towards pushing the ESP platform to its limits by identifying cutting-edge methodologies to improve email programs
  • Continually identify areas for optimization within ESP platforms
  • Continuing education within ESP platforms and emerging trends/ technologie

Team Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Platform Manager to continually improve processes
  • Work closely with the Solutions Consulting team to execute client project requests
  • Create opportunities for process efficiency and transparency
  • Maintain department documentation, and delegate its development and maintenance
  • Train and mentor entry-level staff
  • Collaborate on onboarding schedule for new Platform Specialists with Platform Manager
  • Ensure new team members’ comprehension meets designated milestones
  • Lead by example and provide ongoing mentorship

  • BA/BS in Marketing, Business, Web Design and Development, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years professional hands-on experience within marketing
  • 3+ years experience running email programs using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC)
  • Proficiency in SQL, AmpScript and SFMC data extensions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Detail-oriented, self-directed and able to set priorities
  • Professional in both verbal and written communication
  • A team player who also works well independently, thinks creatively, solves problems and takes initiative
  • Obsessed with technology and love to talk about it
  • An excellent and inquisitive troubleshooter
  • Provider of sound conclusions based on data, experience, and your own research
