UPDATE: Top 5 Email Marketing Challenges

UPDATE: Top 5 Email Marketing Challenges

Top 5 Email Marketing Challenges Whether it’s an in-house FTE (full-time equivalent) or a digital marketing agency you’re talking to, the general impression people have is that email marketing is easy. Basically, it’s a digital version of direct mail. Well, we have a saying here at Trendline Interactive: "Email marketing is hard." Here’s why: 1) DATA This is the biggest challenge we face with any client.  Whether it’s getting the data you need from internal systems to make sure you can act on it, or ensuring that the automated feeds are clean and don’t have any stray characters, which can throw off imports or break reporting.  We spend a lot of time working with data throughout the lifetime of a client. It is an aspect of the system that requires constant vigilance. 2) QUALITY ASSURANCE When it’s crunch time, and an email HAS to go out the door NOW, the most overlooked thing is quality-assurance (QA). 15 Questions with Interactive Designer Becca Pierpoint

Design involves far more than just making something look nice. And designing emails is an art form unto itself. Just ask Becca, one of the interactive designers in TLi's Portland office. What does an interactive designer do? Basically, I design the emails you interact with in your inbox! While I’m not necessarily creating a literal email, I’ll mock up in Photoshop what the email will look like. I make sure the email is not only excellent on a visual level, but I also form a narrative with my layout that will bring to life the client’s goals for the project. Tell us about how you came to work here at Trendline?  What motivated you to want to work on email? I started working here when I moved to Portland and needed a new job. I loved the idea of working in email because it’s a fast-moving environment. You spend two weeks on a project, rather than six months or year. This is exciting and...

5,720 Emails and a 99.74% Error-Free Rate

Trendline has been a strategic email-marketing agency since its inception in 2010. We have quietly grown over the years to more than 40 people, and 2015 was an incredible year. One area of tremendous growth in 2015 was the quantity of campaigns we sent. As an agency, we sent out 5,720 email campaigns for all of our clients, with a 99.74% error-free rate.  This was up from 2014, when we sent 3,694 emails with a 99.64% error-free rate. We have a dedicated Quality Assurance (QA) Team in our Austin office who perform multipoint checks on every single email before it is delivered to the client or the “Send” button pushed.  The process by which we do this is top secret and rigid. Our new QA team members go through almost 3 months of training before ever being allowed to give the green light to send. Sending one error-free email seems easy enough. But sending 5,720 emails, most with dynamic content and multiple links,...
